Surf camp details

Two days in the water

In two days, you will learn to:

  • control the surfboard
  • catch whitewater waves on your own
  • and practice getting to a standing position

Two days is the minimum for something to stick. In a single lesson you get through the theory and a few attempts at standing. With a second day you gain more knowledge, get more practice time, and your body starts to become familiar with the movements.

Surf camp curriculum

What happens each day

The first day, we cover the basics. The second day, we focus on practice, which is where the learning really happens.

Day 1 · The fundamentals

Theory and safety on the sand, the movement to get to your feet, and then into the water to control the board and paddle in the whitewash.

Day 2 · Owning the fundamentals

You come back with the first day still fresh. We repeat what was hard, refine your position, and you start turning the board to ride along the wave instead of going straight.

Where you practice

Gentle waves, no crowds

San Blas has sandy beaches, gentle surf, and few people in the water. For two days of practice that matters: you ride the same wave many times without waiting your turn or working around anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Weekend Surf Camp FAQ

Does it have to be Saturday and Sunday?

Not necessarily. What matters is that the two days are back to back, so that what you learned on day one is still fresh.

Will I know how to surf after two lessons?

No. Two lessons are not enough for someone to learn to surf.

One lesson gives you the theory and your first attempts. The second lesson lets you begin to master some of the basic skills, but to surf without help you need more knowledge and more skills in the water. That is what the 5-Day Surf Camp is for.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Yes, the surf lessons are in the ocean, and while we start in shallow water, for safety, you do need to know how to swim.

What do I need to bring?

You will need your bathing suit and a towel. The surfboard leash and the rest of the equipment are provided for you during the surf lessons. We provide water and fruit.

Why should I take surf lessons?

Surf lessons will help you develop the fundamentals necessary for you to surf safely and independently.

Which surf lesson is the best option for me?

It depends on how many days you have. If you just want to get on a board and see what surfing is about, the Single-Day Surf Lesson is your best option. If you have two consecutive days, then the Weekend Surf Camp. If you really want to learn how to surf properly and be able to surf on your own, then the 5-Day Surf Camp is your best bet.
