Surf lesson curriculum

How the lesson is structured

We start on the sand and finish in the water. Nobody gets in the ocean without first knowing what they are supposed to do.

Introduction

We cover the basic points of ocean safety, getting familiar with the beach, and familiarizing ourselves with our equipment and learning how to carry it.

On the sand

On the sand we go over managing our surfboard in the whitewater, positioning ourselves on the board, how to control our surfboard from a prone position, and the movement to get to our feet.

Into the water with your instructor

You go into the ocean with the instructor. The first thing is controlling the board, getting through the whitewater and lining yourself up to catch your wave.

The whitewater

Riding the whitewater lying down, handling your board and turning it in different directions. This is where surfing begins.

Your first attempts at standing, with the instructor guiding you

You make several attempts to get on your feet. Some work, some don't. Regardless, you have fun and you learn.
